Barcelona is not only Gaudi, Dali, original architecture, and green parks. Barcelona is five kilometers of beaches with fine golden sand and the gentle waves of the Mediterranean Sea. The entire coastline is divided into several sections and today we will talk about the best of them, called La Barceloneta beach.
The beach lies near the area with the same name. The area of La Barceloneta has long been inhabited by fishermen and other poor people. Now the social gap is not so noticeable, but if you look at the houses closer, you can see that their residents are not the wealthiest people. Nevertheless, people come here for the Barcelona flavor, traditional buildings, and the best fish restaurants in the city. Because who, if not fishermen in the fifth generation, knows how best to cook paella with seafood?
When you walk around the authentic area, cross the road and the promenade, and you will see a wide beach in front of you, which offers a breathtaking view of the city and the endless sea. Barceloneta beach is like a small Barcelona - full of fun, noise, beauty, very bright and interesting.
The length of the beach is more than a kilometer. There is enough space for absolutely everyone here. If you want to be away from the crowd, you can afford it. Tired of lying, take a walk along the promenade, but beware of thieves and keep an eye on your stuff.
Sand and water are very clean here. The beach has even been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag award, which is given only to the world's best beaches.
The beach has everything you need for the perfect beach holiday. You can rent a comfortable sunbed and a large sunshade (6 euros apiece), you can sit on your towel, there are showers and toilets along the beach, and there are kiosks where you can buy a swimsuit, towel, glasses, hats, and other beach accessories. There are cafes and small eateries where you can have a quick bite or a substantial lunch on the outdoor terrace enjoying the sea view. If you are traveling with children, you will enjoy the gentle descent into the water and plenty of children's entertainment in the water and on land. If you are a sports fan, sports grounds are at your service, and you may use sultry Spaniards jogging around as a motivation.
There are football pitches near the Barceloneta beach, volleyball nets are stretched and you can join an already playing team or organize your own, rollerblading, skateboarding and cycling along the promenade, someone does yoga, and someone learns new dances. If you couldn't come up with a new hobby, Barceloneta Beach will give you a couple of ideas.
The downsides include the lack of changing cabins and annoying corn and sweets vendors, but simple "no, gracias" will solve the last problem.
