Formentor Beach

Formentor Beach is located near one of the most popular and beautiful sights of the island of Mallorca - Cape Formentor. The cape and the beach are 18 km from the famous resort of Alcudia, 10 km from the city of Porto de Pollensa and 55 km from Palma de Mallorca.

An unusual location and an original combination of a sandy beach and a pine forest make this place a cult among travelers.

Go to the cape on sunny days in order to appreciate all the charms of this place.

There are several key points here: an observation deck, a beach and a lighthouse.

Formentor Beach or Playa Formentor

The beach is usually the main point of the route. If you are coming by car, be aware that beach parking costs about 10 euros and is very busy. You can try to leave the car just on the side of the road a couple of hundred meters from the parking lot at your own risk.

The beach is located 3 km from the observation deck, follow the signs.

This wonderful beach is an unusual combination of blue sea, yellow sand and dark green pine trees that grow along the entire coast. Pine needles fall from the pines, so the sand is not as perfectly clean as we would like.

On the beach you can rent a sun lounger and an umbrella, which cost about 15 euros for a set of two sun loungers and a sunshed, or you can try to do without it.

Lighthouse Formentor

If you come to the beach by car, do not miss the opportunity to see another attraction of the cape - the Formentor lighthouse. It is located 12 km from the beach of Formentor and stands on a cliff at an altitude of 210 meters. The lighthouse is considered the northernmost point of Mallorca.

The lighthouse of Formentor offers a fascinating view of the area. There are not as many people here as on the beach or the Formentor viewpoint, because it is not so easy to get here. Public transport does not go there, there are no footpaths either, so you may get there only by car.

How to get to Cape Formentor from Palma de Mallorca

By taxi or transfer

Not the most budgetary, but convenient and fast way is a taxi or a transfer. For a trip from Palma to Formentor beach you will pay about 100 euros. 

By bus

Buses do not go to the cape itself and to the lighthouse. But if you are planning a trip to the cape by public transport, you must first get to the city of Porto de Pollensa. Bus number 340 goes from Palma de Mallorca to Porto de Pollensa, which departs from the Palma city bus station. Travel time is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. You may buy the ticket from the driver. When you arrive, try to take a bus to Formentor beach, but keep in mind that it goes literally once a day around 10 am and only in summer. The easiest way is to take a taxi, the distance is less than 10 km.
