Mediterranean cuisine is the only cuisine in the world that is considered a healthy diet, and in 2013 was even declared a cultural heritage by UNESCO. Ibiza is a perfect place to enjoy it.

The Mediterranean menu always includes seafood, vegetables, cereals (for example, rice, couscous, and bread), and low-fat cheeses. Yogurt, olive oil, and aromatic herbs are taken as seasonings, and it allows to use less salt. The Spaniards drink a lot of red wine, but sometimes dilute it with water. Such nutrition is low-calorie, but at the same time balanced, improves the functioning of the heart and blood vessels, and gives a lot of energy and a good mood.

The hits of the menu in Ibiza are the traditional paella with seafood, brut - rice with tomato sauce, fish tartare, especially from tuna, vegetable sauté, croquettes with cheese, and jamon. Add a glass of wine or Hierbas Ibicencas anise liqueur, the recipe of which is kept a strict secret by the locals. By the way, if you don’t know what to bring home as a souvenir, choose that liquor - 20 euros per liter and an original gift is yours.

Watch the sunrises and the sunsets

Looking for enchanting sunsets, take a car, taxi or bus and go on an unforgettable journey through the most beautiful places in Ibiza.

Point number one on our itinerary is Cafe del Mar. It is located in the resort of San Antonio Abad, 17 km from the capital. Look for a waterfront cafe between Calo El Moro beach and the city's port. The cafe serves Mediterranean cuisine, a DJ plays sunset music, creating a special atmosphere, and the sun sets in the sea, painting the water and sky perfect colors.

Another option is Benirras beach in San Miguel resort. Here you will find transparent waves of the Mediterranean Sea, soft sand, and picturesque low cliffs. Bring snacks and drinks with you and sit right on the sand. But if you prefer service, then there are several cozy cafes with outdoor terraces near the beach.

If you are in San Antonio for a few days, remember another place - Las Puertas del Cielo. This is an observation deck and a restaurant of the same name, which are located 10 km from San Antonio and 20 km from the capital. Whether you choose a picnic in nature or a seafood paella in a restaurant, you will see one of the most magical sunsets of your life, as well as enjoy the rustle of the pine forest, the pinkish white of the rocks, and the endless azure of the sea.

Еhere is a restaurant called Es Boldado on the shore in front of the island, where you have a pleasant dinner, and also admire the sea and sunset. Behind the not-so-pretentious facade two Michelin stars and the title of the best restaurant on the island, and perfect views of Es Vedra island hide.

If you like this magical place, you can stay in one of the nearby villas, such as Villa Romero, whose terrace overlooks Es Vedra, or the Aparthotel Puerto Cala Vadella, where you can rent spacious apartments by the sea for a large company. 4-Hour Es Vedrá Cruise will allow to relax aboard a double-decker catamaran as you take in views of the beaches and picturesque bays that dot Ibiza's west coast.

Feel peace and love

Hippie culture in Ibiza

Author: Candice Seplow on Unsplash

In 1930, a revolution thundered in Spain. It brought devastation, poverty, and the dictator Franco. Life in Spain has become difficult and very disturbing. People began to leave the country searching for a new happy life. The biggest wave of immigrants came in the 60s, among them were those whom we now call hippies. They came from Spain and settled in Ibiza closer to the capital and the sea. People lived in communes and built new easy and happy life full of joy and freedom. These hippies taught the locals to hang out, and a bit later, to make money.

One of the places that was established by the first settlers, is Can Alfredo. It is an authentic restaurant located in the capital, serving delicious food for over 75 years.

Another place is Sunset Ashram Beach Restaurant. It is located between the beaches of Cala Bassa and Cala Tarida, 24 km from the capital. Perfect views of the sea and rocks, delicious cocktails, unobtrusive music and a relaxed atmosphere immerse you in the local culture.

You can buy interesting souvenirs, jewelry and clothes at hippie markets. The most popular markets are in Punta Arabi and San Carlos. Both towns are located near the resort of Santa Eulalia del Río, so if you are staying nearby, do not miss the opportunity to buy something unusual.

There are several hippie beaches in Ibiza, for example, partly nudist Des Cavalet beach, which lies 10 km from the capital, or the picturesque Aguas Blancas, located a couple of kilometers from the resort of Es Figueral. If you go towards Es Figueral, you will find several beautiful beaches, quiet bays, rocky shores, and emerald forests.

Ibiza has several unique hippie-style hotels that offer amazing local flavor and, at the same time, the highest level of service.

Try the five-star hotel Agroturismo Can Talaias, which is decorated in the style of a bohemian summer house by the sea. The rooms offer incredible views of the sea and mountains, there is an oven in the dining room, you can play the piano in the hall, and if you want real luxury, rent a suite in the tower. The hotel also has a swimming pool with a spacious sun deck, and the sandy beach is a couple of minutes' walk away.

If you want to feel like a hero of Federico Garcia Lorca's poem and live in the middle of an orange garden near the sea, choose the five-star Agroturismo Atzaró. Just like the previous hotel, it is located near the resort of Santa Eulalia del Rio. It offers spacious rooms decorated with traditional Balearic paintings and original décor. Some rooms have terraces with a fireplace where you can snuggle in the evening with a glass of good wine.

These hotels are suitable for those who want to get acquainted with the local culture and at the same time not deprive themselves of comfort. But don't forget that the first hippies in Ibiza lived in caves by the sea.

Master the buggy

Big Buggy Tour is a perfect way to spend a day exploring impressive landscapes and getting your dose of adrenaline. A wonderful route from Playa d'en Bossa is waiting for you and it is full of vista points, incredible views, small villages, picturesque valleys, steep cliffs, and beaches ideal for sunbathing, swimming and relaxing. Be sure you will see indescribable landscapes and get interesting experience and unique memories.
