The resort town of Las Galletas is located in the south of Tenerife, 80 km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 10 km from the resort of Los Cristianos.
The first thing that comes to mind when you first hear the name is biscuit cookies. And these cookies are really relevant to the island. The local legend says that a couple of centuries ago, a ship carrying cookies crashed off these coasts, and the word ''cookies'' in Spanish sounds exactly like "galletas". After the crash, locals went to the seashore and saw that it was all strewn with the sweet consequences of the accident. And they did not find a better solution than to give their village a name after this case. Since then, the city has been called Las Galletas.
So, let's move from the name to the essence. The city of Las Galletas is famous for its beaches, and also for its big port and fish stores. Another attraction is banana plantations, which surround the city and create a slight tropical effect. In general, if you like the sun, waves and healthy food - do not waste time, book a hotel on the coast and the sea, and come.
Las Galletas beach is located on the outskirts of the town, but since the town is very small, you can walk to the center from the beach in a couple of minutes.
The length of the beach is about 500 meters. The beach consists of black volcanic sand and small pebbles. The beach has all the necessary amenities: rental of sunbeds and umbrellas, showers and toilets, stores and cafes. On the beach you can rent a scooter, boat, go diving, rent a yacht, or join Whale & Dolphin Tour.
The descent into the water is gentle, so it will be comfortable for families with children.
There is another beach in the neighboring village of Costa del Silencio. The Costa del Silencio beach consists of large stones and rocks, so it will be comfortable for those who like to dive or snorkel in search of underwater caves, as well as dive from the rocks. Others may use the ladders to descend into the water.
When you get bored on the beach, you can explore local attractions, such as visiting the picturesque red and white lighthouse that stands on a hill by the sea, go to the fish market and buy fresh seafood, walk along the promenade and explore local churches. And then go to the neighboring cities of Costa Adeje, Las Americas and Los Cristianos, which are considered the most popular cities on the island.
In the city of Santa Cruz, you need to take bus number 110. The bus departs from the Intercambiador Sta.Cruz bus station. It drives through the resort town of Los Cristianos. Travel time is approximately 1,5 hours. In Los Cristianos transfer to bus number 467 and it will take you 15 minutes to get to Las Galletas.
You may also order a comfortable transfer for 55 euros.
