San Antonio is a small resort town in Ibiza. It is known for its fine white sand beaches and turquoise sea. And the most popular "non-beach" attraction is the Columbus's Egg.
Christopher Columbus is one of the most famous natives of Ibiza. Locals believed the official sources claim that the city of Genoa was his birthplace. There have been disputes between all these cities for decades, but it’s enough for us that he discovered America and we can see here, in a tourist paradise, such an original monument to the great navigator.
The monument looks like a large white egg, larger than human growth, in the middle of which a model of the ship of Christopher Columbus is placed.
There is a legend that upon returning to Europe after the discovery of America, Columbus was told something like "Any fool would discover America if he had such a good ship". Columbus took the egg and offered that man to put it on the table so the egg stand up on it's end without any help. Nobody in a room could do it. Then Columbus took the egg, tapped it on the table, flattened it's end and made the egg stand on the table. The moral was: not everyone can figure out how to perform even a very simple action.
